It’s time to get our ears stoked! The off-season has gradually begun to let it itself be known to those who have been enjoying the waves off the Amihan swell. This time, I’d like to share a very important part of my life, aside from surfing and that is music.
Millennial or not, everyone needs music in their lives. The developments of technology have enabled us to have music conveniently within the nearest tap or swipe.
Ever since Spotify was born, I have now the pleasure of listening to music all over the world! It’s like a treasure chest of audible pleasure. Especially for those who love indie music, Spotify helps you get to hear music that just matches your soul.
Millennials my age, those who grew up in the early 2000s know that it wasn’t always this easy. We used to risk getting our computers infected by viruses before when we courageously downloaded songs though the infamous Limewire.
It was one of those days when I was stuck in the city for more days than I would have wanted. I missed the ocean terribly. It was more than boredom that brought me the realization that throughout the past months, I’ve noticed that my current songs in Spotify had two things in common: love and water.
Most of the songs I kept playing on repeat have at least in the lyrics or in the title anything about the ocean or anything about water and love. You know those types of songs that make you feel that it was written with you in mind and for you? This is how I’d consider saving a song on list, only when I felt it fit me or my situation perfectly.
On the day I noticed this trend among the songs on my list, I decided to go search if there was a playlist I could find online that listed more indie songs that were ocean or water-inspired. I wanted to add more songs to my list. I was surprised because I found none that suited my taste.
For a water lover, you CANNOT get too much of the ocean. I’ve been stuck in the city for too long already. It’s about time that I head off back to warm waters and surf! But since I couldn’t do this, the next best thing is to listen to songs that made me feel like I’m home in my happy place, in my element.
I had qualms about sharing my playlist to the world. I didn’t want my favorite songs become everybody’s favorite. Despite the selfish shellfish in me, I finally to share this playlist I lovingly curated to celebrate the amazing music of these awesome artists. After all, music is always meant to be shared. I can’t imagine working or simply going about my day without listening to music I love.
Music after all, is a big part of my life. If I could just bring speakers so I could listen to music while I surf, that would add so much fun to our usual sessions. Though I wouldn’t want to do it anyway because the sea has its own song to bring and that’s something I don’t humans could ever replicate.
So this is my treat for all of you who love the ocean like I do. The LoveWater playlist is freely available for you to listen to on Spotify. The perfect therapy for saltwater souls. Created by mermaids for mermaids.
If you think I missed a few songs that you think would make the LoveWater playlist better, please let me know by sending me a message through my blog: www.millennialmermaid.com or through the Millennial Mermaid Facebook page.
