It is the complexity of dishes that highlights its simplicity. As twisted as that may sound, any dish, from the world over, becomes nakedly balanced once it touches our palates. The sensation it produces is enough to take us on a frenzy and be acquainted with the many ingredients used to create such a masterpiece.
Over the years, a number of delectable gastronomic places have satisfied the people of Davao and neighboring cities. And many of those closed their doors that made us crave for them more. Personally, I have a number of dining places that I wish still operates in the city. Hence, whenever I’m outside the bounds of the city, I make it a point to reunite with old favorites.
A recent trip to Cebu with my lovely Mama Bai Rowena, Tita Bai Minda and cousins Bai Omayra and Bai Muhaira turned out to be a calorie-laden trip after all. Since we craved for balanced, detailed and savoury dishes, we opted to grab a seat at Siam Thai restaurant. Though it was Krua Thai in Davao — their menu is just the same.
Thai cuisine has always placed a great emphasis on strong and aromatic ingredients. The cooking process alone is a craft in itself. From the freshest of ingredients to concocting a fusion of flavours, nothing beats Thai cuisine anytime of the day. More than the flavours, ingredients used are seen with great medicinal purposes to help aid the body of any ailments.
More so, Thai cuisine is somewhat similar to our dishes in the country. Although not entirely, the use of local tropical ingredients reminds me of muslim delicacies that I grew up with. The use of coconut cream and coconut per se is also something that reminds me of home. In addition, the spices used are just so invigorating that makes you crave for more cups of rice than normal.
Siam Thai Restaurant’s menu is, of course, a treasure chest of delectable dishes. From appetizers to soups to mains and drinks, you will crave in an instant. Try their chicken pandan that’s heavenly juicy and reeks of pandan goodness. Their bagoong rice is, of course, an inevitable winner. The bagoong is not too pungent but the flavour is just so divine. Reminds me of the streets of Bangkok.
Curry, anyone? Go for a bowl of Thai green curry instead of the usual. The green curry is not as spicy but is as tasty as the others. Personally, I prefer the green with additional level of spice, that is. Another lit one from their menu is their Siam tropical slush.Their slush tastes so tropical and Asian. I prefer it with a bit of sugar though but other than that, it’s all good.
How I wish a Thai restaurant opens in the city. Keeping my fingers crossed with this one.
