THE ROYAL CHEF: Ohana street style Japanese indulgence

True, eating is a necessity. We won’t be who we are or where we are at if we do not eat. Cooking, on the other hand, is an art that makes eating more interesting. It excites the senses and heightens the clamour for an instant feast. More so inspires and motivates the self to further the craft and not be limited.

With Davao’s fast growing gastronomic realm, the emergence of restaurants and gastropubs in places we once thought impossible, are the ones dominating the food game. Case in point, vacant lots in subdivisions are now filled with newly furnished restaurants ready to make us hungrier than ever. And one such example is Kaizen Davao — though not inside a subdivision, it’s location per se is enough to tickle your hungry soul in an instant.

Since 2016, Kaizen Davao has been one of the many hole in the wall gastro places in the city that has been making everyone love Japanese food even more. Their menu is filled with Japanese and Western fusion dishes hence the interplay of flavours that’s swak sa panlasa. Kaizen Davao is basically a Japanese street dining place unlike any other in the city. Notwithstanding the many turo-turo and street food kiosks we have, Kaizen Davao truly is one of a kind.

Always innovating and introducing new items on their menu, before 2017 flips into a new and exciting year, they have a new addition to their menu that’s both inspiringly delicious and deliciously inspiring.  Introducing their Ohana Platter.

The Ohana Platter, as mentioned, is served with four different rolls — Aloha Roll, Essence Roll, Vision Roll and Commitment Roll.

Aloha Roll is basically inspired by the flavours of Hawaii (like an homage to founder Bruce). Each roll is deep fried and has cream cheese, avocado slices, tuna and mango puree sauce on top.

Essence Roll, knowing the self minus the doubt, has cream cheese, cucumber sticks and fish flakes.

Vision Roll, speaks of having a vision and turning it into a reality, has cream cheese, cucumber sticks and crab sticks inside with a hefty spicy sauce on top. Each roll is also deep fried. Commitment Roll is all about the dedication even after an Ike Pono workshop. Each roll has cream cheese, cucumber sticks and spicy tuna. With some tempura flakes on top.

Inspired by Ike Pono where the owners are active members, the platter of four (4) distinctively flavoured rolls reflect one’s life — to absolutely believe in the self and leave no room for doubt. To state, it’s basically discovering the self and how the self can see beyond his limitations and embrace the vast world that he is in.  Ike Pono is founded by Hawaiian Life Coach, Bruce Conching.

Kaizen is located at Barangay 19-B, Pryce RD. corner, Torres ST., (right beside Davao Wisdom Academy), Davao City
