URBANISSIMO: A Davao Icon reborn

urbanissmo by kenneth irving ongA landmark on its own, Durianburg’s oldest operating hotel, The Apo View is a true historical icon and since its establishment in 1948, the hotel has seen much of Davao City’s evolution into a major business hub of the Philippines.

Last October 19, The Apo View Hotel had a jolt of fresh energy injected into its veins as it relaunches itself with newly renovated rooms, a redesigned all-day dining experience, Entree, as well as the addition of new function rooms.

The whole day affair kicked off with a motorcade and parade highlighted by street dancing and cultural presentations. This was be followed by a Holy Mass and Ribbon Cutting ceremonies led by Apo View’s managing director Edmundo Las and Department of Tourism Region XI director Roberto Alabado III.

In his welcome speech Mr. Lat shared how The Apo View has changed to adapt to the needs of today’s travellers. “The Apo View Hotel will celebrate its 70th year in March 2018 and is the second oldest hotel in the whole of the Philippines. Over the years, we have to blend the legend to the millennials.”

Centrally located in downtown Davao, the hotel boasts 156 smartly designed rooms, as well as full service banquet facilities, Each room at The Apo View is equipped with air-conditioning, dual-temperature shower, LED TV with access to cable channels, hypo-allergenic pillows, chiropractic beds, free wifi, in-room safety deposit boxes and standby power generator for an uninterrupted power supply. “Here we strike a balance. We maintain the legend. The outside looks the same but inside, we appeal to a younger crowd.” said Mr. Las.

Aside from refreshed rooms, the hotel also offers a wide selection of local and international cuisine available at the hotel’s all-day dining buffet restaurant, Entree, and at Café Josefina. After hour cocktails and live music can be enjoyed at the Blue Room, while individuals who are feeling lucky  can try their hand at the the Casino Filipino Players Club. Aside from our three restaurants and a casino, the hotel also offers a full-service 24-hour in room dining.
