URBANISSMO: A ‘spiritual’ experience

urbanissmo by kenneth irving ongFar from just going about and visiting the sights and sounds of a city, travel today is all about experiences. From going about the different shopping streets to buy that unique trinket to sitting down to taste the unique flavours of a city’s street food, these memories are what define what travellers look for which is why the Marco Polo Davao is introducing a new signature experience for its guests.

Called “Raise The Bar”, the new signature experience that is available at all Marco Polo Hotels is a mixology class which teaches students in the class the basics of bartending as well as the many different techniques and spirits that go into one’s drink at a bar.

“Raise The Bar is another signature experience of Marco Polo Hotels. It is indeed a great opportunity for professionals and young professionals that they may able to learn the international standards of bartending and mixology.”  said MPD GM Dottie Wurger-Cronin.

Attended by school representatives and Marco Polo Davao tourism and media partners, the RTB class was packed with energetic spirits. The trainer of the proper standards of bartending and basic mixology is Lawrence Ibarra who won silver medal of the recent Kusdelsur competition in Bartending while James Carty, shared a brief overview on mixology. Another silver medallist, Nathan Ducot showed off his award winning flare-tending.

From the simple Cuba Libre to the classic Martini (shaken not stirred of course), I tried my hand on making each and every one and I finally got to appreciate the skill and craftsmanship one needs to create fabulous drinks.

Marco Polo Davao’s RTB is scheduled every first and third Monday of the month which targets students, professionals and young professionals to sign up to classes in basic and advance Bartending and Mixology skills. Interested guests will just pay an assessment fee of Php 888.00 inclusive of a snack, class manual and certificate. Personally, I think this is a great alternative to the ordinary party.

Aside from the basic class of bartending, students will also learn the concoction of Timeless classics, Rum Bumble, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Havana Nights, Water of Life, Oak and Barrel, La Dolce Vista, Stirred Not Shaken, and The Season that Sparkles.
