URBANISSMO: An afternoon rendezvous

urbanissmo by kenneth irving ongLong holidays mean extra time to go out and catch up with friends and loved ones. It is no wonder the Christmas and New Year holiday season is always full of family and school reunions. Oftentimes, these events happen in the evening over dinners or parties but we got to remember that there are only so many evenings in the season.

To squeeze in more time and “chika” in a day, I would suggest going out for coffee or tea in the afternoon instead and one good place to lounge about in the heart of Durianburg is at the Lobby Lounge of the Marco Polo Davao which just recently launched their now all-day snacks.

The introduced by the hotel’s Executive Chef, Alex Destriza, the all-day menu of light snacks, desserts and beverages are perfect for casual meetings. New dishes include Chorizo-Gambas al Ajillo and Fish and Chips. Individuals who prefer lighter fare can try the Lobby Lounge’s House Salad and Malagos Cheese Plate. Family and friends might want to share the Spicy Beef Nachos, Grilled Sirloin Steak and Malagos Blue Cheese Sandwich-Potato Wedges, Beef Pastrami Sandwich, Hawaiian Pizza, and Ice Cream Trifle Decker.

My personal favourite is the Smoked Salmon Pizza which comes with a crisp crust and buttery smoked salmon paired with cream cheese, capers and peppery arugula.

Making a comeback is the Lobby Lounge’s afternoon tea in typical British fashion. The afternoon tea set includes a set of finger sandwiches, petit fours and sweet pastries as well as a selection of premium Althaus teas. This is perfect for those who cannot make up their mind on what they want from the menu.

“We take pride in the diversity of our cuisines; as we can competitively come up with Western, Cantonese and Filipino dishes in our restaurants. Our regular guests, such as Davao’s local residents; can choose from a wide-array of dishes that are prepared by our culinary team. We have the Lobby Lounge for appetizers and afternoon snacks.” says MPD General Manager Dottie Würgler-Cronin.

And with the central location of the Marco Polo Davao, it is easy for everyone to arrive on time even with holiday traffic.
