URBANISSMO: A nod to Indonesian fashion

urbanissmo by kenneth irving ongThe Activity Center of the Abreeza Mall was the center of Indonesian fashion as the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao City organized the 1st Indonesia Fashion Expo 2017 (IFE) last November 24, 2017.

Recognising the need to further promote Mindanao and Indonesian trade relationships, the three-day expo brought together thirty of Indonesia’s top garment and textile exporters to Durianburg to showcase Indonesian Batik as well as various textiles, leather goods, and accessories. The IFE follows closely on the heels of the Indonesian Manufactured Products Expo which was successful in bringing new trade relations between Indonesia and Mindanao.

“The 1st Indonesia Fashion Expo 2017 is the last schedules trade show the consulate is organising for the year,” said Indonesian consul general for Davao Berlian Napitupulu “We started with a few exhibitors during the first expos and every time, we have more and more participants joining.”

Aside from the exhibition booths, the IFE featured music and cultural performances, tourism promotions and a fashion show featuring the collections of the expo participants. I loved how traditional batik prints, patterns and colors were reimagined with contemporary silhouettes, giving Indonesian fabric an exciting look for todays modern streets

There were also one-on-one business matching sessions to further improve and diversify business and trade between Indonesia and Mindanao.

Opening the expo were Davao City mayor Sara Duterte together with MINDA Secretary Datu Abul Khayr Dangcal Alonto who wore a splendid barong featuring colorful needlework of Marawi craftsmen.

Congratulations to the team of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao City on a job well done.
