Culinary skills are honed through practice and experience especially for the students taking up the culinary arts. This is idea behind the Institute of International Culinary and Hospitality Entrepreneurship (IChef)’s Global Skills competition.
Held at the Activity Center of the Abreeza Mall last December 7, the annual competition is IChef’s way for the students to apply what they learned as well as get more real world experience.
“This is our 8th year of holding this Global Skills competition and it is a way for all our students to participate in friendly competition through culinary skills,” shared Joji Ilagan Bian, chairperson of the Joji Ilagan International Schools. “We have students in the four-year Bachelor of Science in Culinary Management competing with each other. Even the Grade 11 and Grade 12 students are participating.”
The day-long event had competitions in Mixology, Marketing Pitch, Market Basket, Edible Centerpieces, Plated Desserts, Bread and Bakery Showcase, Gingerbread Displays, and Cake Decorating. There was also an inspirational talk by Mr. Gatchi Gatchalian of the Davao Tourism Association.
