THE ROYAL CHEF: Homegrown taste served buffet style

Nothing says Pinoy more than our colourful and flavourful dishes. And nothing is more Pinoy than munching on them nibbles on a daily basis. For one, our dishes are way too flavourful and full bodied than of those I have tasted. Yup, that’s my unapologetic and unbashful bias opinion of our food. And yes, I will always, always trade freshly cooked rice and isdang tuyo with spiced coco vinegar for anything in a snap.

As we come to celebrate Araw ng Dabaw, let us get a taste of the festivities through the many delectable homegrown restaurants and cafes in the city. Serving more than just food, our homegrown realm of dining places go beyond the food that they serve. They extend Filipino hospitality beyond measures. Treating everyone as family — wherever part of the archipelago you may come from.

One most notable dining place in the city is Buffet Palace. For a time, it has been known for its buffet during lunch and dinner. Nowadays, Buffet Palace, like its sister company Probinsya, serves breakfast buffet for the early risers. The only restaurant serving breakfast buffet at the south side of the city, this is a perfect venue for people who have early appointments, meetings or even those trying to catch an early flight.

Their buffet is simple. Unapologetically simple yet bursting with flavours. The spread is not as complicated as you’d expect. I mean, Filipino breakfast is a mixture of everything you can find in one’s pantry, right? From sauteed vegetables to fried fish, expect a variety of flavour combinations when eating Filipino food.

On the menu are breakfast staples we have grown to love and crave for. I mean, freshly cooked tocino is comfort at its best. Right? Paired with sinangang na kanin with garlic bits, fried eggs, fresh ensaladang ampalaya with spiced native white vinegar and a cup of brewed coffee will have you reminiscing along memory lane in a snap. Oh and not to forget, it comes with bottomless drinks.

Halo-halo in the morning? Go ahead and create your own medley of toppings. That’s not all. Pinoy food is also about our kakanin. The rustic taste of good old sweet kakanin is truly something that should not be missed. The color, the texture and not to mention, the taste is early an indicative of our culture. And yes, every region has a staple and at Buffet Palace, they have the Mindanao faves on full display.

Not many appreciate a buffet early in the morning. But did you know, the many choices we have at home or elsewhere is as good as a buffet without us knowing? At Buffet Palace, you need not adjust your palate and guess the dishes available. At Buffet Palace, it is your palate that will dictate what to have next.

Are you an early riser? Buffet Palace’s all Filipino breakfast buffet which is available from 7am to 10am daily is perfect for anyone craving for pinoy flavours in the morning. Personally, I like it. It’s an inexpensive way to get any day started and a definite way to bond with the family or friends. And for someone who loves kakanin, their buffet selection is just right.
