The Lunar New Year is a time when families come together to spend quality time with each other. It is also a time of celebration much fanfare and merriment as we become thankful of the past and look forward to a more prosperous new year.
Although much of the Chinese world celebrates Lunar New Year on the day of the new year itself, the Marco Polo Davao kick starts the celebration early by holding Lunar New Year’s eve celebrations which is a great idea as families gathered to have dinner at the Lotus Court, awarded as one of Tatler Dining’s Best Restaurant for 2018, to join the festivities.
This year’s celebration started with the ceremonial dotting of the lion’s eye officiated by Department of Tourism secretary Wanda Corazon Teo and Marco Polo Davao general manager Dottie Würgler-Cronin. This was immediately followed by a spirited lion dance performance around the hotel’s lobby.
The celebration continued at the Lotus Court where students from Collegio de San Ignacio performed Chinese dances and songs, much to the delight of the gathered diners.
The evening ended with a round of fortune cookies giving a glimpse of what the upcoming Year of the Dog may bring.
