Adult Learning Made Fun

It is never too late to discover something new about yourself and the world around you. You should never be reluctant to pursue a curiosity for it might turn out to be more than just, well, a curiosity. It might even be that one particular beginning of a desire that continues on to be a lifelong pursued passion.

True enough, learning furthers even after you receive your diploma…even after you receive your first pay check, that is. Learning is a lifelong process that involves acquiring and updating the self in relation to change. As such, do not confine yourself in books or the mundane reality of everyday life. Instead, break free.

And at the Ateneo de Davao University, lifelong learning is now a reality made easily available for everyone.

Ayessa Marie Velasquez, Coordinator of the Ateneo de Davao Academy of Lifelong Learning (ADD-ALL), explained the concept behind ADD-ALL. She said, “ADD-ALL inspires, engages, and enables our adult learners to achieve their goals”.

The Ateneo de Davao Academy of Lifelong Learning or ADD-ALL is a student centered, consumer centric learning specifically designed for individuals aged 25 and above. Though conducted inside a classroom and takes on the traditional teacher-student setup, ADD-ALL is tweaked into a more interactive and appealing process of exchanging information. It basically sees beyond the norm –- seeks to ignite a passion, enhance an innate skill or talent, and even further personal development in terms of employability.

ADD-ALL, for Velasquez, focuses on an enriched life for all – enabling adults to learn and achieve goals in helping them realise a more convenient and comfortable life. To say the least, the program not only focuses on the fun side but also, on the more practical side of the courses.

The concept of ADD-ALL is likened to that of an open university. Offering non-degree short courses, they have two tracks specifically suited for adult learners – the professional development track (with CPD Units) and personal development track.

Though short, the program also incorporates technopreneurship (techie savvy entrepreneurs) in some of the courses offered. This is primarily helpful to those who plan on developing their passion into a reality.

“It is a new and exciting program that the Ateneo came up with in response to the growing demand for learning and social inclusion despite one’s age”, Velasquez shared. What’s more, ADD-ALL is inexpensive thus allowing anyone to learn, have fun and make the most of their life without breaking their budget.

At present, ADD-ALL has more or less 20 exciting short courses limited to 20 individuals per class. The limited seat makes it possible for both the instructors and students to develop a more intimate information exchange process needed for this type of learning. Instructors for ADD-ALL are all successful Ateneo graduates who happily shares their time, knowledge and skills to help enrich the lives of others.
