In the past, the concept of art for many is that it is unreachable and, as such, is cloistered in the halls of the galleries of the elite. But in their desire to make art and art appreciation reachable to the masses, SM Supermalls created their Art for Everyone campaign.
Already three years in the running, the annual week-long selling exhibit serves as a fun venue for artists to showcase and sell their artworks and masterpieces. Art for Everyone 2018 celebrates artist diversity — from budding artists, art enthusiasts, and hobbyists to renowned artists and art groups.
Since 2016, the art fair has been delighting mallgoers with a refreshing vibe in the malls through a fun-filled art sale and exhibit. This year, Art for Everyone has come closer to customers in 23 malls all over the country. Sharing a renewed vision to further promote the local art scene and to support the upcoming Filipino artists, the week-long art fair invites everyone to discover art and to also get in touch with their artistic side and creativity through different art pieces.
“This year, Art for Everyone will give mallgoers meaningful reasons to bond with loved ones as we bring this fun filledcelebration of art, creativity, and family fun moments closer to them in 23 malls across the country,” said Jonjon San Agustin, SM Supermalls SVP for marketing.
In Davao, the Art for Everyone exhibit is at the Annex, Event Center of SM City Davao and features works of artists from Ford Academy of the Arts, Philippine Women’s College of Davao, The University of Mindanao, Magallanes Elementary School, Davao City National High School, Ateneo de Davao University, Deannsepaco Foundation of Different – ABLED Inc., Guhit Kamay Young Artists Panabo City, United Durian Artists, Gama and Baihinang, University of SouthEastern Philippines, Christian Colleges of Southeast Asia, Artlink Artist and Educators Guild, Figuras Group, and other Davao solo artists.
The exhibit, which runs from August 27 to September 4 features a wide scope of styles and art philosophies. From social realism, to surrealism, to pop art, and romanticism, there is sure to be a piece that will catch one’s eye.
“This exhibition is a gathering of artists whose diverse expressions shape the art of our time” said Art for Everyone 2018 curator and artist Rodney Hao “It is also a gathering of their audience who, likewise, come from various backgrounds. They meet here, the art and its public in the present, in an exhibition that offers the opportunity for art to be part of their wider culture and for the audience to belong to the dynamic world of the creative and critical imagination.”
