Discovering Davao’s Japanese Lane

Discovering Davao’s Japanese Lane

In Davao, you need not have a heavyweight wallet to enjoy a feast. You also need not dress up to get yourself some proper night out in the town. In Davao, all you need is your appetite, sense of smell and the gusto to imbibe some calories as you munch.

With the explosion of international flavours in the metro, there seems to be no reason to forego spending some time with the flavours of the world at your palate. Case in point is Davao’s dainty Japanese restaurant — Kaizen. Since the first plated roll was served, Kaizen has been a foremost favourite amongst diners because if their delish and affordable dishes.

In reality, Kaizen already has an extensive menu. Nonetheless, that does not stop them from updating their repertoire. Recently, Kaizen added some new items on their menu and the reception of the public has just been overwhelming.

Egg-rific Tamago Roll

Egg-rific Tamago Roll. A staple on any Japanese menu, Kaizen’s version is a bit sweet. Because the egg is fluffy, it creates a string of soft-floss-like-thread in the palate. The rice intertwines merrily with the egg thus complementing a fusion of Asian flavours as you take a big bite. It’s clean, yes, but also leaves a lasting taste on the palate.

Always happy Al hapone

Always happy Al hapone. If a sandwich is your cup of tea, then Kaizen’s al hapone is the one for you. This packed-to-the-brim snack is one of their best sellers. The taste is exciting – the flavours create a medley of symphony that’s very unlikely for a sandwich. Nonetheless, the flavours do work well together.

Lovely Loco Moco

Lovely Loco Moco. A plate of loco moco will truly make you go loco. Subtle to the eyes yet destructively flavourful to the palate, Kaizen’s upped the ante with their delectable gravy and perfectly fried egg that verily complements the whole dish. The way to go is to fork up all the components of this dish and savour as you take a bite. Best eaten when hot.

Fantastic Futomaki

Fantastic Futomaki. A classic amongst the maki varities, Kaizen’s futomaki (fat rolled sushi) is big on size and also big on taste. A bite off this baby allows you to taste a plentiful of Japanese cuisine staples — avocado, cucumber, ebiko, denbu, tamago and eel. It tastes like Japan in every bite.

Bento for you and me

Bento for you and me. Kaizen’s single-portion packed meal is a definitely tummy pleaser. Their bento meals, which comes in 6 varieties, contains their best sellers that has been a favourite amongst diners. What I personally love about them is that you can just order any of their bento meals and turn a typical dining experience into a feast.

Kaizen is located at Pryce Road corner Torres st., Davao City.
