The Tulip Drive Food Scene

WITH everyone up and about, it is but a luxury to find a food haven strip that has everything you need to fill a craving palate. On this premise, Davao is one lucky city to have a number of delish strips ready to cater to anyone who is hungry . . . or even hangry. Case in point, Tulip Drive over at Matina.

Towards the south end of the city, Tulip drive’s portfolio of gastronomic places has been one of the most exciting. Why? It has a plethora of choices, lined within walking distance from each other. No need to hop inside a car and spend time on the road — you can just walk to your next destination with ease.

Cake overload. CAKE GALERIE is one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring cake shops in the city. Built inside a residential lot, Chef owner Charise Canave opted for an intimate cafe that exudes positivity and vibrancy in all corners. What makes them extra-special are the cakes and pastries they sell.

Coffee, anyone? PURGE COFFEE ROASTER is one of the newest on the block. Using a mixture of local and international beans, this quaint coffee shop along Tulip drive is relaxing and allows you to savour the coffee without the pretense of deception as you take a sip. They are also roasters so be ready for that aromatic whiff of coffee every time you come in.

Bread, cake and more. PATOK SA MANOK has been one of the most established gustatory places in the city. Their menu is packed with savory dishes that hits close to home. What’s more, they always have freshly baked breads and pastries ready for you to munch on. Not to mention, their colorful cakes that will surely take your breath away.

Budget umami. TADAKUMA will take you to Japan minus the long lines at the immigration. Here, you’d be treated to choices after choices of dishes that has been part and parcel of the Davao palate. Indulge with a bowl of their umami laden ramen and crunchy karaage as you say bye-bye to your deadlines with every bite.

Ringside meaty punch. RED CORNER BURGER packs a mean punch every time you opt to eat any of their burgers. Named after famous world boxers, their repertoire allows you to savor a multitude of flavours as you take a bite after another. Aside from burgers, they also have meaty steaks on their menu. Oh and do not forget the crunchy sides for that complete Red Corner experience.

Classic Davao taste. LACHI’S is an institution in the Davao food scene. No one leaves Davao without dropping by or having something from Lachi’s.  At their Tulip drive branch, you’d be in awe of the many cakes and pastries they have on display. Unlike their Marfori branch, this does not operate a full kitchen hence it’s a sweet haven all the way. Don’t forget to take some goodies home.

Continental eating. CUENCO’S is your best bet if you are craving for rice, rice and more rice. Their menu is literally bursting with continental flavours that’ll ignite the traveller and foodie in you. From curry to creamy to saucy, all you need is here. End the meal with a choice of their homemade dessert.
