One year of ONE MINDANAO

It was an evening of fun and camaraderie as GMA Regional TV’s One Mindanao marked its first successful year as the first and only Mindanao-wide local newscast in the Philippines at the ballroom of Home Crest Hotel.

Attending the event were the program’s partners and advertisers who supported the program since its inception in August of 2017.

Committed to delivering comprehensive and in-depth delivery of news and information in the region, One Mindanao is bannered by seasoned TV journalist Tek Ocampo, who is joined by reputable TV host and news presenter Sarah Hilomen-Velasco and experienced news correspondent Real Sorroche.

Joining them are the various local news teams based in Northern and Southern Mindanao and news stringers across Mindanao led by Regional Senior Correspondent Sheillah Vergara-Rubio and Regional Correspondents Rgil Relator, Jandi Esteban, and Clyde Macascas.

“It has been a busy yet productive year for GMA Network’s Regional TV,” says GMA Regional TV Vice President and Head Oliver Amoroso. “We take pride and honor that on its first year, our first-ever unified regional newscast One Mindanao has narrowed the gap on competition. We only have our viewers in Mindanao to thank for because they believed in us and supported us since day one,” he adds.

Amoroso recalls how One Mindanao started as a vision to break new ground instead of becoming comfortable with GMA RTV’s present accomplishments. “The path to innovation is filled with challenges but if there is anything that our work in Regional TV has taught us, it is that local news plays a very important role. It is the stories in our local communities, stories that directly affect our relatives, families and friends that remain very important to us and to our regional viewers. That’s why unifying newscasts — though most challenging — has been the most rewarding experience for us. We are also grateful for the full support of the entire Kapuso Network especially by our Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon, and President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr.,” Amoroso shares.

In just a span of 14 months, One Mindanao has become a formidable newscast to be reckoned with in Mindanao and has earned the distinction of securing exclusive interviews with various newsmakers and tackling both local and national issues at hand.

One Mindanao has also made the region’s various festivals closer to more Filipinos by covering the biggest Mindanao festivals and activities, including Davao’s Araw ng Dabaw and Kadayawan Festival; Cagayan de Oro’s Higalaay Festival; GenSan City’s Tuna Festival; and Zamboanga City’s Hermosa Festival.

“It all started with a vision,” shares GMA Southern Mindanao Station Manager Mariles Puentevella. “Our regional teams in Mindanao envisioned creating better ways to deliver relevant news and information in Mindanao. This vision was wholeheartedly supported by Mr. Amoroso and the entire GMA Network executives.”

“And as we gear towards 2019, GMA Regional TV remains determined to maintain the momentum as our teams continue to strive in producing relevant local programs and activities for our Kapuso viewers in the regions who are continuously growing in number,” adds GMA Northern Mindanao Station Manager Armi Sobremisana.

One Mindanao is simultaneously broadcast in key cities and provinces in Mindanao thru GMA network’s local channels in GMA TV-5 Davao, TV-35 Cagayan de Oro, TV-8 General Santos, TV-12 Jolo, Sulu, TV-9 Zamboanga City, TV-12 Cotabato City, TV-2 Tandag City, TV-10 Surigao City, TV-26 Butuan City, TV-4 Dipolog City, TV-3 Pagadian City, TV-5 Ozamiz City, TV-11 Iligan City, and TV-12 Bukidnon. It covers the whole Mindanao thru its DMNG technology.

Congratulations to GMA Regional TV and to the team of One Mindanao!
