EVENT: Marco Polo Davao’scandy-coloured Countdown

Fresh off its spectacular 20th year anniversary celebrations early last December, the Marco Polo Davao was again the address for merriment at the heart of Durianburg as it welcomed 2019 with a massive Candy Carnival New Year’s Eve countdown party at the hotel’s Ballroom.

“We are pleased to welcome the New Year together with our guests, owners, media partners and co-associates. 2018 has been a meaningful year for us as we celebrated our 20th year. On behalf of our entire team, we would like to sincerely express our gratitude to all of you who have been supporting Marco Polo Davao all these years”, says Mr. Tirso Bitacura, Acting Director of Finance.

Dining guests enjoyed culinary highlights, prepared by its Executive Chef Alex Destriza, during its dinner buffet at its all-day dining restaurant, Café Marco such as the famous prime ribs, roast beef, roasted pork and other Filipino favourites. At the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, The Lotus Court, Cantonese dishes such as the traditional Peking duck and a wide variety of Dim Sum were also served.

After enjoying the sumptuous meal, I made my way to the Marco Polo’s Grand Ballroom which was decorated with candy, unicorns and rainbows in jewel tones. The party favours this year include a horn, colourful bowler hats, and a massive all day peppermint lollipop.

Time passed quickly as guests waited for the clock to strike twelve. Guests who were savy with the swing grooved to the dance floor with the music of the Reversed Band. Lucky individuals started their 2019 on a high note as they won gift certificates during the raffle draw.

As the timer wound down and the clock struck twelve, the ballroom erupted in a barrage of horns as balloons dropped and confetti rained down. Marco Polo Davao’s executive chef Chef Alex and the F&B Kitchen Team did the hotel’s traditional New Year chef’s march with pots and pans clanging away, signalling a loud and boisterous welcome for 2019.
