Beautiful music soothes the senses and warms the heart. To awaken amazing for its shoppers in the season of love, Ayala Malls Abreeza recently gifted Dabawenyos the eclectic selections and gorgeous sounds of the acclaimed Manila String Machine.
In a free pre-Valentine’s concert held last February 10, the Manila String Machine placed their classical-meets-modern spin to 30 songs spanning everything from OPM hits to pop and rock anthems to unmistakable movie themes. The group introduced smoothness and sophistication to their re-imaginings of iconic Filipino songs such as the Eraserheads’ “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” on their first set, Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” Guns n’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” and even the Game of Thrones theme for their second set. They earned a standing ovation at the end of their penultimate set, which culminated in an encore performance of Queen’s “We Are the Champions.”
Officially formed in 2008, the Manila String Machine is made up of members who began performing together during their time at the UP Diliman College of Music and eventually gained experience playing with prestigious orchestras such as San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra, Manila Symphony Orchestra, Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, FILharmoniKA, and ABS-CBN Orchestra. The group is famed for its ability to perform tributes to various contemporary and modern artists and play an assortment of musical genres—from classical to standards, from pop to heavy metal.
With Valentine’s Day and National Arts Month falling on the same month, Ayala Malls Abreeza’s February lineup is a celebration of love for all senses with an Art for the Heart Fair last February 9, which offered workshops covering phone photography, floral arrangement, makeup, and bag painting, as well as love poetry performances.
On Valentine’s eve, shoppers tested their love and art knowledge at the HeART Trivia Night last February 13. And on Valentine’s Day itself, Davao-based talent Thea Pitogo charmed audiences with her ukulele melodies. There is also the United Durian Artists’ Inkspression Art Exhibit that ran from February 1 to 16 at the 3F Hallway and the upcoming Art Market by the Philippine Women’s College of Davao happening on February 21-24 at the Activity Center.
