A Food Escapade

“Our cuisine is basically international fusion specialising on seafood and yes, steaks”, Chef Noel Bueneventura on Cafe Julieta’s diverse menu.

When it comes to food, nothing exemplifies a favourable dining experience than a fusion of flavours to soothe a craving palate. With the many restaurants in the city, it’s still hard to find one that’ll treat you and your palate like majesties on a dinning quest — introducing Cafe Julieta.

Cafe Julieta is home to a diverse menu that’s both classic and modern at the same time. Familiar flavours of childhood fused with the booming flavours of the world, Chef Noel Buenaventura plays with dishes that bring out the adventurous side of anyone’s palate.

Despite his international culinary background, Chef Noel makes sure that the dishes are close to home. “Easily relatable but a bit different at the same time”, shared Chef Noel. “I want diners to experience something new every time they dine”, he added.

What separates Cafe Julieta from the rest is their playful take on taste, texture and flavour – impeccable pairings, at that. And Cafe Julieta never fails to deliver. From classic dishes to the more adventurous and explosive, they make sure that the palate is satisfied without going overboard.

Their menu is, to say the least, simple. Simple to the point that you’d expect the dishes to taste a certain way. Nonetheless, Café Julieta shocks you with their play of pairings that’s very Asian and yes, Western at the same time.

Their seafood laksa (a Singapore dish staple of spicy noodle soup made of thick wheat noodles or rice vermicelli with chicken, prawn or fish, served in spicy soup based on either rich and spicy curry coconut milk or on sour asam), popcorn shrimps and medley of sashimi tacos (trio of salmon sashimi, shrimp ceviche and tuna kinilaw) will have you smiling from ear to ear. I did.

In the mood for something familiar? If yes, then their plate of aesthetically pleasure pleasing Asian stir fried crispy noodles is one for you. Add to that their deliciously addictive catfish crablets mango salad (for a non-catfish eater, this is a winner!) that has layers and layers of taste in one bite.

For days when you feel like on a global binge, try their humongous Cafe Julieta burger made of ¼ lb beef pattie, housemade brioche bun, cheddar cheese, caaramelised onions, sautéed mushrooms, pickles, onion rings and that savoury bbq sauce that ties the whole repertoire of flavours together. Sides? Grab a plate of their crunchy stacked onion rings for an afternoon of delightful conversations on the dining table.

They also have seafood dishes that will surely have you falling in love with these yummy sea finds in an instant — black cod in saikyo miso and pan seared salmon with balsamic teriyaki.

Cap the food escapade with their in-house sweets of dulce ensaymada, double chocolate cake with caramel filling and their smooth to the palate mango cake.

See, in the city, there’s a lot of way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Go out and eat. Cafe Julieta is located at Tulip Dr, Juna Subdivision, Matina, Davao City
