IT was an afternoon of culture and cuisine last August 23 as the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao opened an exhibit featuring works by artists from Agono and introduced their latest food offerings.
ON ART
Known as the “Artists’ Haven of the East” in Angono, Rizal, Angkla Art Gallery opened its latest exhibit at the lobby of the Waterfront. Often hailed as the Arts Capital of the Philippines, Agono is home to two National Artists – Carlos “Botong” Francisco for Visual Arts and Maestro Lucio D. San Pedro for Music.
The exhibit titled, “Ang Arte ng Agono sa Davao” features works with a variety of subjects and styles by artists Dolpee Alcantara, Bong Anore, Aaron Bautista, Dino Blanco, Michael Blanco, Nogie Blanco, Totong Francisco, Jao Mapa, Nani Reyes and Joy Vocalan-Cruz whose family founded the gallery in 2017. They are joined by Davao’s Madoline dela Rosa and Elenita Dumlao.
The exhibit is the last of three legs which brought the artists and their works to Metro Manila and Cebu. The three-day exhibition will run until August 25, 2019.
ON FOOD
Together with the opening of the “Ang Arte ng Agono sa Davao” exhibit, the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao also launched its “Crazy Rich Flavors of Asian Cuisine”, adding a Singaporean air to the regular Café Uno spread.
The latest promotion highlights the signature recipes of Waterfront Hotels and Casinos’ very own Singaporean Chef, Alan Chan. Right off the heels of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino’s “Singaporean Pride” and Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino’s “Shiok!”, the latest food event is a brand-wide initiative by Group Executive Chef Giovanni Sias to present the expertise of Waterfront’s culinary dream team.
The ceremonial launch was led by Ms. Susabel Reta, Former City Councilor and City Mayor’s Consultant on Tourism; Ms. Nurainie Ampatuan, Hiyas sa Kadayawan 2019 and representative of the City Tourism Operations Office; Ms. Joy Vocalan-Cruz, Mr. Nogie Blanco and Mr. Nani Reyes of the Angkla Art Gallery; Ms. Elenita Dumlao, Davao artist; and Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao general manager Bryan Yves Lasala and director of sales and marketing Jennifer Romero.
Some dishes to look forward to include Laksa, Chili Crab and Prawn on Mantao, Hainanese Chicken, Beef Rendang and, my personal favourite) Braised Pork Belly on Deep Fried Tofu. To contrast with the spice, try the Sago Pudding with Coconut Milk and Palm Sugar and other authentic Singaporean desserts.
The Singaporean-themed promotion is available for a nett rate of PHP950.00 beginning September 1 to 30, 2019. For inquiries, you may call Café Uno at +6382 233-2881 to 87 local 8700
