October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao goes pink once again in its annual endeavour to promoting Breast Cancer awareness.
Using the color pink for breast cancer awareness was started in 1982 by Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the largest and best-funded breast cancer organization in the US. The logo that they came up with was an abstract female runner outlined by a pink ribbon. Almost half a century later, the color pink and the pink ribbon is still the most universally-recognized symbol for breast cancer awareness.
This year the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao, together with the Municipality of Loreto, Agusan del Sur and Carousel Productions, brought 25 international delegates of the 2019 Miss Earth pageant to an exclusive charity gala where women advocates and women of the Earth come together with a collective intention to support the cause. The stellar line-up includes candidates from the Central Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North Central America, South America, Africa and Asia.
The fashion extravaganza had the ladies paving the runway, sash in hand, garbed in regal evening wear by Love & Styles, wearable pieces woven with the “Inaul” fabric of Maguindanao, and pink tee shirts accessorized by Kathryn Fanlo.
The Inaul section of the show featured Maguindanao’s beautiful indigenous tapestry as designed by the province’s cream of the crop and home-grown designers including: Mac Taug, Akmad Kari, Joy Puro Abayon, Jose “Pepe” Quitco, Melissa Ajaddi Chin, Thato Kambali Inggo, Julien Gentica and Matet Edcil Pineda.
Aside from the gala, a pink art exhibition portraying different imageries of women created by the BaiHinang group of women artists was formally opened for public viewing at the Hotel Lobby and with it, a Pink Matters room promotion to run lasting the entire month of October or the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Part of the proceeds from all these initiatives will be donated to the Ribbon of Hope Cancer Care Advocacy of the Davao Doctors Hospital to help women in local and indigenous communities who are in need of the early detection and proper treatment.
