Tagum City—The City Government of Tagum is positive that the Hijo Industrial Estates, which will soon rise in Barangay Madaum here in this city, will open the floodgate of opportunities for Tagumenyos to benefit and enjoy.
Mayor Allan Rellon said that with the emergence of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)-accredited industrial estate here, Tagum City will be in the center of industrial development not only in the Philippines but in the ASEAN region, as well.
Dubbed as the “next gateway to ASEAN,” the 166-hectare Hijo Industrial Estates is part of the larger 760-hectare township to be developed by the Hijo Resources Corporation, which broke grounds last June 16, 2017.
Rosanna Tuason-Fores, CEO and President of this home-grown multi-billion company, said that the billion-peso project will certainly provide Tagumenyos employment and economic opportunities that may preclude them from seeking chances elsewhere.
“We’re hopeful that we will not just increase employment but (also) value creation,” she said.
She also emphasized that with the company’s strategic location, being in the heart of Davao Gulf, the economic growth and industrial development of Davao region will be propelled as it is an ideal gateway for foreign and local exporters and importers alike.
“We operate in a viable and prime location. Everything we do here is complementary to the government’s vision of economic development,” Fores said.
The city government, meanwhile, will extend support to the development of the industrial estate knowing that this is a boost to the progress of Tagum, Mayor Rellon said.
A satellite government center will be established in the self-contained township for ease of access to government services.
