IPs seeks inclusion in BBL draft law

Mindanao Indigenous People Conference for Peace and Development (MIPCPD) Chairman Datu Lipatuan Joel Andres Unad called attention anew to the main objectives of the upcoming Mindanao Indigenous People’s Legislative Assembly (MIPLA) for the Bangsamorro Basic Law at Wednesday’s Habi at Kape discussion.

Datu Unad reiterated that this event will be packed with crucial discussions with regards to the proposed Bangsamorro Basic Law (BBL); the possible enhancements to drafted laws, specifically those that will impact on the rights/welfare of the region’s non-Moro Indigenous Peoples (IPs); Enable Members of the Tribal Legislative Assembly to interface with representatives of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC); and Submit legislative proposal that will mirror the views, dreams and aspiration of Mindanao’s non-Moro IPs, and be reflected in the proposed BBL.

“We will also tacke the proclamation of the president to make this a federal state, clarohon sa tribo ug ang tribo makahatag ug proposal para makabalo unsa ang participation sa tribo sa discussion.” He added.

Datu Unad strongly encourages a widely accepting and open discussion regarding the above mentioned topics so as to create a good example in solving conflicts through talks and not through any form of violence.

This event with the Theme, “Understanding and Embracing Challenges with Peace and Development in the Coming Age of Federalism” will be spearheaded by the Governemnt of the Republic of the Philippines-Indigenous People (GRP-IP) Peace Panel, and will be held from August 30 to September 2, 2017 at the Mergrande Beach Resort, Davao City.
