An official of the Muslim Mindanao Halal Certification Board, Inc. (MMHCBI) yesterday clarified that there are only four new logos are accredited by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) under the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) to denote that a product is Muslim-made and another is to certify a product as halal certified.
“Currently, the halal logos are under the purview of the DTI for the strict labeling requirements in halal markets and marking halal products,” said Mariam Daud, MMHCBI executive director.
According to Daud, the official “Philippine Halal Logo” was approved and promulgated by the NCMF last 2015 for Halal products manufactured in the country.
“A product that bears this Halal Logo should have undergone a strict process in accordance with the Shariah or Islamic law that guarantees that the product is clean and beneficial to our health,” she said.
“Beneath the Philippine Halal Logo shall be the acronym of the NCMF Accredited Halal Certifier plus any numeric code that the NCMF may assign, “she added.
Daud said that the new logo designation will ensure the products have been made in a halal environment, to distinguish products that were produced by Muslims and to help Muslim entrepreneurs make forays into the halal markets locally and abroad.
She added that those logos give awareness to Muslim consumers.
“Halal logo certifies products that are permissible for Muslims to use and consume, the requirements are “general” and include good manufacturing practices, and always be aware of those authentic Halal logo,” Daud said.
