The Davao City Police Office is now looking for a Davao businessman after several high-powered firearms, enough to equip a small army, were seized from inside his office at Sandawa Park, Quimpo Boulevard on Monday afternoon.
DCPO director Sr. Supt. Alexander C. Tagum identified the suspect identified as Earl Vincent G. Calma, a resident of Ecoland Subdivision in Barangay 76-A.
Tagum bared the operating team raided the establishment of Calma through a search warrant issued by Davao City Regional Trial Court executive judge Emmanuel Carpio.
This after the DCPO received information that Calma possessed high caliber firearms.
Tagum said the police recovered two M4 rifle, on M16 Baby Armalite and M203 rifles, eigth grenade launchers, 585 M16 bullets, 543 .45 pistol bullets, 235 9mm pistol bullets, 60 M14 bullets and assorted magazines and bandoliers.
The firearms were found at the old office of the suspect’s late father while the others were found inside the comfort room wrapped inside several bags.
“If he is a gun collector, he should not possess that number of firearms and ammunition and we saw that they undergone hard use,” he said.
“Obviously, he is prepared to either conduct assault or defend himself, “ Tagum added.
Tagum said they are afraid that he might be affiliated with some local terrorist groups or criminal groups.
“His firearms might be used against the people of Davao City, “ Tagum said.
He said based on records, Calms has only one licensed firearm but it was already expired many years ago.
“He did not renew his firearm license despite of our warning in several Oplan Katok we conducted,” he said.
Tagum said investigators are now filing a case against Calma for violation Republic Act 10591 Comprehensive Law on firearms and explosives.
He said the raid was part of their pre-emptive operation to ensure that there are no armed groups in Davao City.
