Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte appealed to the public to plan their itinerary coming to the city on March 25 because of the major road closures during the Alveo Iron Man 70.3 challenge.
Duterte said in a sideline interview on Saturday at the Task Force Davao Headquarters, there will be major road closures from Lanang going to Tagum City, Davao del Norte during the conduct of the prestigious triathlon event.
The event schedule of the Iron Man is also the schedule of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) here in the city and examinees from the provinces of Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley and Davao del Norte are expected to converge in the city.
“Starting this time, we give public advisories on what roads are to be closed and the time duration of the closure. The mayor said these roads were already requested to be closed starting 3 a.m. up to 12 noon of Sunday for the Bike and Run challenge of the triathlon event.
“I also advise them to plan their day before the road closure and after the road closure,” she said.
Duterte also said she expects that the people who will converge during the event are those who will cheer for the athletes “Because it’s a Sunday, there are no classes anymore and also the start of the holy week,” she said.
Earlier, City Traffic and Transport Management Office (CCTMO) head Dionisio bared the roads affected on the said race will be from From the intersection of J.P. Laurel Avenue and R. Castillo St. Davao City (Alcantara) up to Robinson’s Mall Tagum City. Northbound Lane going towards Tagum City will be closed from 3:00 am to 12:30 pm while the Southbound Lane going towards Davao City from 3:00 am up to 10:30 am. Northbound lane in J.P Laurel Avenue corner F. Torres Street, going to Lanang corner R. Castillo Street will be also closed from 3:00 am up to 3:30 pm. Southbound Lane going to the downtown area of Davao City will be open and used for two-way traffic, but only up to Alcantara.
