Major national roads in Davao City and Davao del Norte will be closed for long hours for the duration of the Alveo Iron Man 70.3 Davao on March 25.
City Traffic and Transport Management Office (CCTMO) head Dionisio Abude said on Thursday’s I-Speak Media Forum, the closed roads will be used for the Bike and Run challenge of the prestigious triathlon event in the world.
Abude bared the roads affected on the said race will be from the intersection of J.P. Laurel Avenue and R. Castillo St. Davao City (Alcantara) up to Robinson’s Mall Tagum City.
“Northbound Lane going towards Tagum City will be closed from 3:00 am to 12:30 pm while the Southbound Lane going towards Davao City from 3:00 am up to 10:30 am,” he said.
He said the northbound lane in J.P Laurel Avenue corner F. Torres Street, going to Lanang corner R. Castillo Street will be also closed from 3:00 am up to 3:30 pm.
“Southbound Lane going to the downtown area of Davao City will be open and used for two-way traffic, but only up to Alcantara,” he said. Abude said CCTMO will distribute fliers to all motorists for them to know the alternate routes that will be used during the conduct of the activity.
“Everyone is directed to use the available alternate roads as illustrated at the back of the flier,” he said.
He said during the road closure no vehicle may use the said roads nor will any vehicles be allowed to cross the same. “All pedestrians may cross only through available pedestrian overpasses,” he said.
Abude said all items, materials, structures and vehicles found on the said road, including on its shoulder, that are illegally stored or parked will be removed or towed at the expense of its owner.
About around 2,000 participants from all over the world are expected to compete in the most prestigious triathlon event. The organizers considered that the city’s hosting got the highest turn-out because majority of the first time event in other places would only took 500 registered participants.
