The leading cement firm, Holcim Philippines Inc. is investing P1.5 billion to expand its plant in Davao City in a bid to increase the current production capacity of 1.4 by 2019.
William Sumalinog, senior vice president for sales of Holcim Philippines, said on yesterday’s Habi at Kape press forum at Abreeza Mall that the investment will raise the production capacity of the Davao plant to 2.2 million metric tons to support the government’s infrastructure thrust in the region.
“Holcim Philippines is committed to support the development on infrastructure growth that would spur the economy and improve the lives of the people. The government needs support to make that happen and that is where we come in,” said Sumalinog.
The project is targeted to be completed by 2019 to support the government’s infrastructure program, Build, Build, Build.
Sumalinog said Holcim Philippines is planning to raise cement production and introduce innovative services and materials to help the city put up the essential structures for sustained growth.
“Increasing our plant capacity is our contribution to make more resources available to the development in Mindanao,” said Sumalinog.
Sumalinog added that the Davao expansion is part of the company’s P2.7 billion investment to raise its nationwide cement production to 12 million metric tons from the present 10 million metric tons.
The Davao plant produces eight to nine million bags of cement per 350-400km per month.
