MATI CITY, Davao Oriental – The efficiency in service delivery of Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST) was spotlighted in the latest State of the College Address (SOCA), which detailed the college’s operation.
Addressing the plenary session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on January 21 at the SP Hall Government Center, DOSCST president Edito B. Sumile said the administration’s efficiency paved the way for the conversion of DOSCST into a university.
RA 11033, which renamed the former DOSCST Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte on May 28, 2018.
DOSCST can finally carry that university status after submitting certain prerequisites to the Commission on Higher Eduction.
The college, which already earned a ISO 9001: 2015 Certification and bagged a PRIME-HRM Bronze accreditation last year, has produced numerous professionals who are currently occupying “important societal positions.”
On top of that, DOSCST has undertaken various research activities and extension initiatives “that influenced the province’s policy and executive decisions.”
In response to Sumile’s speech, Davao Oriental Vice Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy reportedly “expressed commendation and gratitude to DOSCST for performing well in terms of its mandates.”
In turn, Sumile lauded the continuing support of the provincial government of Davao Oriental, citing it as a “strong partner and collaborator of DOSCST in its developmental endeavors.”
Philip Yncierto, secretary to the DOSCST Board of Directors, said Dr.Sumile traditionally delivered his SOCA during the DOSCST Foundation Day celebration in December.
However, Dr. Sumile saw it fit to report the DOSCST’s operation to the members of SP out of respect to the provincial legislative body, Yncierto said.
