The City Tourism Operations Office is eyeing to make the Light Garden Park at the Santa Ana wharf here in Davao City, a permanent attraction.

“We hope that it would be a permanent structure there because what we are going to do,  is to put climbing plants like vines and ferns so that eventually the structures would resemble trees,” City Tourism Chief Generose Tecson said.

The Sta. Ana Lighted Garden, which was launched last week of February and would end this March on the occasion of the 82nd Araw ng Dabaw, consists of a 30-meter lighted tunnel and several palm-shaped lighted structures. There are food stalls and performing bands for the visiting public.

The lighted garden park is open from Fridays to Sundays till March 31. Tecson said the structure is also aimed as a destination for visitors coming for the Ironman race which will be held on March 20 in Davao City.

The City Government has spruced up the once-derelict Sta Ana Wharf. Tecson said they would want to beautify the facility which is owned by the Philippine Ports Authority.

“Until  Sta. Ana wharf is transferred to the city government there is still not much we can do that is long-term, what we are doing now are short term improvements just to make sure the place is presentable to visitors and tourists,” Tecson said.

The Sta. Wharf is the jump-off point for several motorboats and sea craft to the different island attractions of Samal Island. (PIA/RG Alama)
