Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) personnel have fanned out to Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental to inform the people not to consume shellfish products as they have been found to have high red tide toxin contamination.
This was learned from BFAR Region 11 Director Fatma Idris who said that high red tide toxin in shellfish products were monitored to be in the coastal water of Santa Maria, Davao Occidental and the Balite Bay area inside Pujada Bay in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
Idris said Balite Bay and Sta. Maria have been added to the test
of areas found positive of red tide toxin in the bulletin of BFAR.
“All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from the area shown are not safe for human consumption,” the BFAR advisory said.
In the same bulletin, BFAR said shellfish collected from San Pedro Bay in Western Samar; Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur and the coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol were still positive for paralytic shellfish poison.
