The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints partners with the City Government of Davao for the second Kadayawan Family History Exhibit on August 5-9, 2019 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod lobby.
The exhibit aims to provide Dabawenyos means to strengthen beliefs in family record preservation, tracing ancestry, and keeping family memories.
Last year’s exhibit gathered 2,732 patrons and 913 registered accounts.
This year, the church is optimistic to gather more patrons with the launching of its new technology in tracing family history. The exhibit will introduce FamilySearch Tree, a mobile genealogy app. With the app, the exhibit will become more fun and interactive. With some few clicks, patrons can learn the basics of the app.
“This year, were going to introduce the mobile app which synchronizes dun sa website so kung anong yung data na pwede mong ilagay sa phone mo about your ancestors, family tree, photos, you can already upload the data (to the app),”said Bro. Luis Philip Tan of Kadayawan Family History.
FamilySearch is the largest genealogy organization in the world. Since 1894, FamilySearch has worked with archives, libraries, and churches in over 100 countries to facilitate economical access to records that help people find their ancestors. It is also a service provided by the Church of Latter Day Saints, FamilySearch’s commitment to helping people connect with their ancestors is rooted in the Mormon belief that families are meant to be central to our lives and that family relationships are intended to continue beyond this life.
Every month, over 3 million people use FamilySearch records and services are available online at FamilySearch.org, or through over 4,600 family history centers in 126 countries.
As a non-profit organization, FamilySearch relies on the support of volunteers throughout the world. These volunteers help index records, provide persona; assistance, and share their knowledge about genealogy research.
The exhibit will also feature memorabilia, personal collections, family treasures, and genealogical records of renowned individuals. It will also have a photo booth featuring tribal and traditional costumes.
The exhibit will be staffed with trained volunteers in genealogy research.
The Kadayawan Family History Exhibit will be opened on August 5 at 1 PM with Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte as guest of honor.
