Davao Hotels and Resorts Sales and Marketing Association (HRSMA) President Jennifer Romero said they are now lobbying for another batch of skills training for hotels and resorts’ frontliners with the Department of Tourism (DOT).
Recently, 20 out of 33 hotels and resorts that are members of the Davao HRSMA received certification for Hotel Sales Professionals by American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) standards through the Tourism Industry Skills Program (TISP) grant.
The grant was given to DOT-accredited members of the Davao HRSMA which urged other hospitality businesses to comply for accreditation to enjoy tourism incentives.
“Part of the association’s objective is we want to be globally competitive and we are very thankful with DOT. You take the course and you take the exam then if you pass you will be certified,” Romero told Edge Davao in an interview.
Romero said more than the certification, the training helps recipients uplift the human resources standards in the hospitality industry.
The said training, which is a globally-recognized certification program for Sales professionals, was participated in by the sales people in the hospitality industry who availed of the program to optimize their marketing and revenue management skills as they keep up with evolving sales techniques and strategies in the industry.
“We saw the need not only to educate but also enhance the skills of the frontliners in the hospitality industry. Sila kasi yung naga- receive ng mga tourists sa mga hotels,” she said.
Romero said not all hotels in Davao has structured training programs for their employees.
“In the case of sales, not all sales are exposed to other sales training and not all the hotels are really following the standards. Kailangan talaga ng training since Davao market is increasing,” she said.
Romero also urged other hotels and resorts that are still non-DOT accredited to get accreditation for them to avail trainings and grants.
“Marami pa ang hindi accredited ng DOT,” she said.
