More than 50 families will not be returning to their homes anymore in Purok 6 Barangay Malawanit in the Municipality of Magsaysay due to the gradual sinking of the land of the said area.
The Municipality of Magsaysay is a third class municipality in the province of Davao del Sur.
Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Chairman Director Manuel Luis Ochotorena told media in Kapehan Sa Davao that those families who are in subsidence areas particularly in barangays Malawanit and Upper Bala in the municipality of Magsaysay are no longer allowed to return to their homes due to threat of landslide.
“Sa Malawanit there are about 56 families pero sa Upper Bala wala pa ko numbers of families and individuals,” Ochotorena said.
These families cannot go back to their respective homes anymore according to Ochotorena.
He said he will be meeting with officials of the National Housing Authority (NHA) and Magsaysay Mayor Arthur Davin to discuss about the relocation site of these displaced families.
“It would the NHA that will find a site to relocate katong mga naa sa peligro na areas or subsidence ug dili na sila puwede makabalik kay everyday ga-unlod ang yuta ug dili na puwede puy-an tungod sa landslide,” Ochotorena said.
Based on the records of RDRRMC, there are 718,713 families and 2,874,858 individuals from the provinces of Davao City, Davao del Sur, and Davao Occidental affected by the recent earthquakes.
Thousands of families and individuals were displaced as RDRRMC conducted pre-emptive and forced evacuations in affected municipalities. A number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) due to damage houses is also reported in the municipalities of Magsaysay, Padada, Kiblawan, Matanao, and Bansalan.
Some of the IDPs are put up tent and or evacuated near their houses or in an open area while some are temporarily staying in barangay gyms or in their relatives.
“Daghan naa na sa evacuation centers. For those evacuation sites that are structurally compromised hindi na sila puwede magstay and so they are staying outside of the evacuation sites or are in tents,” Ochotorena said.
Ochotorena also lauded donors and volunteers who extended necessary assistance to the affected individuals. He said the help will alleviate the sufferings of the victims of the recent earthquakes with magnitudes 6.3, 6.6. and 6.5 that happened in Tulunan, North Cotabato affecting some parts of Davao Region particularly Davao City, Davao Occidental and Davao del Sur.
