“We encourage every adolescent and young adult to share information that are accurate and right. Get the sources from the right websites: for example; the Department of Health (DOH), World Health Organization (WHO), or other nations’ disease centers,” said Tagum Health Education Promotion Officer Rae Katherine Apura.
Apura explained during Kapihan sa DavNor on April 28, 2021 that senior citizens have the tendency to easily believe what is presented to them.
“We have to inform them [the youth] also to not create fears. Kung unsay inyong tanan makita diha sa social media especially sa Facebook, e-share dayun nimo, these are not all true (Whatever you see on social media, especially on Facebook, which you quickly share, these are not all true),” she said.
While people spreading “fake news” are subject to legal penalties by Republic Act No. 11469, she expressed the need for accurate information, in order “to ease the fears and confusion among the elderly people.”
This as Tagum City Health Office (CHO) Immunization Program-Division Head, Dr. Princess Dyann Wagas-Dumandagan, revealed that the immunization program in the city is set to inoculate the second priority group, the senior citizens.
“Pre-registration nagsugod na ta. So kung kinsa tong wala pa, naa tay mga designated barangay social workers, sila ang gakuha ug data sa mga citizens diha sa barangay (We have started the pre-registration. For those who have yet to register, we have designated barangay social workers who will gather the data of citizens in the respective barangays),” she said.
