Some 25 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) housed in Bureau of Jail Management and Penology District Jail (BJMP) in Montevista Davao de Oro obtained National Certificate I on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
In a ceremony on July 22, the PDLs received their national certificates, training certificates and training support fund from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Under the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP), the beneficiaries underwent the free SMAW training on April 27 to June 17, and got evaluated during the National Competency Assessment on July 4-6.
Representing TESDA Davao de Oro Provincial Director Jasmin J. Neri, Davao National Agricultural School (DNAS) Administrator Norbenia O. Magpatoc said that the program gives hope and opportunities to the PDLs.
“The program is part of the TESDA’s mandate to provide skills training to PDLs to help them get employed and develop their well-being by honing their skills and enhancing their potential until they reintegrate back into society,” Magpatoc said.
Last September 2021, 15 PDLs also in Montevista District Jail acquired NC II on Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM). (PIA XI/Michael Uy)
