City of Mati Mayor Michelle N. Rabat has created the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Team of the City Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management (IESWM) Board thru Executive Order No. 49 which she signed on July 06 and published online today.
Such IEC Team is tasked to conduct IEC campaigns relative to the proper implementation of IESWM Plan and other solid waste advocacy; formulate and develop IEC materials; and organize Barangay Ecological Solid Waste Management IEC Teams.
Based on E,O. 49, the team is also expected to capacitate the team members of its counterpart Barangay IEC team.
Such teams is composed of the City Planning and Development Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, City Information Office, City Health Office, City Tourism and Promotion Office and City Agriculture Office.
Other mandated members of the Team are the Liga ng mga Barangay, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) City Federation, Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Mati, Department of Interior and Local Government-City of Mati, and Konsumo Mati.
The creation of the solid waste management IEC Team is anchored on Part VI, Rule XXI Section 3 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order 2001-34, Implementing Rules and Guidelines of Republic Act 9003 saying, “The local government units, down to barangay levels, shall allocate a portion of their funds to public education and information activities on ecological waste management…”
The creation of such team is also anchored on Mati City Ordinance No. 394 Series of 2020 which “mandates the implementation of an IEC campaign for the strategies and mechanisms and guidelines contained in the CIESWM Plan and creation of an IEC Team to implement such campaign.” (PIA XI Jeanevive Duron-Abangan)
