A team from the national Department of Interior and Local Government arrived in the City of Mati on August 22, 2022 for their validation on the City of Mati LGU as a national contender to the prestigious 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance.
The evaluation team members are SGLG National Validation Team Leader ARD Yvette Sunga CESO V, together with LGOO VI Maria Theresa Obatonon, LGOO II Ryan Cloyd Villanueva and Gwennifyn Paulin Vaquillar, and Davao Oriental DILG PD Orle Cabaobao.
The team thoroughly checked the city departments’ report when it comes to financial administration, social protection and sensitivity, safety peace and order, sustainable education, disaster preparedness, environmental management, business-friendliness and competitiveness, tourism, culture and arts, and youth development which are the indicators of the SGLG.
“Our validation is based on the criteria of indicators that was approved by the council of SGLG. We will base it on that perspective and aspect. You did your best and God will do the rest,” SGLG team leader Sunga said in her message.
The event was also attended by City of Mati Mayor Michelle Nakpil-Rabat, Vice Mayor Enzo Rabat, City Administrator Atty. Alejandro Aquino, city councilors, Mati Philippine National Police, Mati Philippine Coast Guard, Mati City Bureau of Fire, city department heads and their staff.
“We are honored to be chosen to be one of the few, at least, to be validated for our Seal of Good Local Governance,” Mayor Rabat said in her speech as she stated that the city is prepared for the SGLG validation.
The evaluation team also conducted an onsite visit and evaluation in the City Hall of Mati and dumping site.
SGLG is in compliance with R.A. 11292 or “An Act Establishing and Institutionalizing the Seal of Good Local Governance for Local Government Units, and Allocating for This Purpose the Seal of Good Local Governance Fund” also known as “The Seal of Good Local Governance Act of 2019”.
Under the said law, the SGLG aims to “an award, incentive, honor and recognition-based program for all LGUs, and is a continuing commitment for LGUs to continually progress and improve their performance.”
The SGLG is the highest recognition and the most prestigious award given by the DILG to excellent and performing LGUs in the delivery of public service through compliance to pertinent national laws and guidelines. (CIO MATI/Ethel Marie Gastanes)
