Search, rescue ops end for sunken fishing boat in Davao Oriental: PCG

The search and rescue operations have been terminated for the remaining six missing crew members of a fishing boat that sank off Davao Oriental on June 22, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Thursday.

“At around 11:39 p.m. yesterday, 28 June 2023, the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao decided to terminate the search and rescue operations today, 29 June 2023 — seven days after the maritime accident,” the PCG said in a statement.

“However, it will continue alerting transiting vessels for possible sightings of the six missing crew,” it added.

During an investigation, one of the survivors said the six missing crew might be trapped inside the fishing boat Genesis 2, which sank 182 nautical miles off Baganga town with a depth of around 5,000 feet, according to the PCG.

Clarifying its previous report, the PCG said the boat captain is one of the six missing persons in the incident.

Three people were reported dead so far.

A total of 14 crew members have been rescued in the incident, according to the PCG.
