The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has apprehended 8,330 speed limit violators from January 1, 2023, to December 7, 2023.
Dionisio Abude, chief of CTTMO, reported on Thursday that in Diversion Road going to bypass road, his office recorded 1,819 apprehensions in the same period.
“Dapat ma-control nato ni kay pila ka injuries, damage to properties ang involved ani,” he said during the I-Speak media forum on Thursday.
Abude said this will be CTTMO’s baseline next year starting January 2024.
He also said that based on his observation, accidents involving trucks along Diversion Road have decreased since CTTMO set up the checkpoint near Crocodile Park.
“Pila to kabulan nagkaroon ug problema katong walo kabuok nga nagbangga diri sa Diversion Road. We set up immediately a checkpoint sa may Crocodile Park, which is operating 24/7,” Abude said.
Meanwhile, CTTMO will start distributing flyers and installation of signages of the new speed limit in Davao City starting next week.
The distribution of the flyers aims to educate the drivers and motorists in Davao City about the “Speed Limit Ordinance of Davao City”, which covers all types of motor vehicles driven within the territorial jurisdiction of Davao City and the drivers, operators, and registered car owners.
The flyer contains road classification, maximum allowable speed, speed limit signs, and a map that identifies where the speed limit signs will be installed.
At least 1,526 signages are eyed to be installed in 32 locations including going to Lacson in Calinan, Lasang, Toril, Diversion Road, and Quimpo Boulevard.
The distribution of flyers and installation of signages will run until January 10, 2024.
Under the new ordinance, from Bunawan up to Lasang, the speed limit is 80 kph for private and public utility vehicles (PUVs) and 50 kph for trucks; from Lacson, Calinan up to the boundary of Buda in Marilog, 50 kph for trucks and 80 kph for private and PUVs; Carabao monument in Toril up to the boundary of Binugao, Sta. Cruz, 50 kph for the trucks and 80 kph for private and PUVs.
The penalties under the said ordinance are P1,000 for the first offense; P2,000 for the second offense; and the third offense, P5,000.
According to Abude, the aforementioned ordinance will aid in addressing Davao City’s traffic incidents and accidents.
