Catalunan Grande Barangay Captain January Duterte, wife of Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, was elected as the new president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC)-Davao City Chapter during the General Membership Meeting and Election held at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Monday.
The ABC is the umbrella organization of barangays in the Philippines. The barangays are represented in the association by their Barangay captain. Under the local government code, the councils of barangay captains are called Liga ng mga Barangays.
Other elected ABC officers are barangay captain Carlos Garcia of Brgy. 2-A as vice president; barangay captain Jessemar Culaste of Dumoy, auditor; and barangay captains Lilibeth Al-ag (Toril Proper), Fidelo Almirante (30-C), Jessielito Areja (Malabog), Merjade Calvo (Tibungco), Pacito Cañete Jr. (Ma-a), Edwin Fiel, and Armel Liong (Malagos) as board of directors.
Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte led their oath of office.
Barangay captain Duterte succeeded former ABC-Davao president and former barangay captain Edgar Ibuyan Sr. of Brgy. 5-A (Bankerohan).
She was also elected ABC president in 2013 when she ran unopposed.
