Vice President Sara Duterte will serve as caretaker of the country while President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is on official trip abroad from December 15 to 18, 2023.
In a statement, Duterte stated that she will hold office in the Department of Education-National Educators’ Academy of the Philippines (DepEd-NEAP) Davao and the OVP Satellite Office in Davao City.
“The Vice President will discharge her duties and will preside as chairperson of the Executive Committee meetings in Davao City during the official travel abroad of President Marcos from December 15 to 18. She will hold office in DepEd NEAP Davao and OVP Davao Satellite office,” the statement said.
Marcos departed for Tokyo on Friday to attend the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit where he is expected to highlight the ASEAN-Japan relationship, push for regional economic development, and invite investors for the country’s renewable energy sector.
In his departure statement at the Maharlika Lounge in Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, the President said this year’s last ASEAN-related Summit presents an opportunity to affirm the Philippines’ position on current international issues and advance its interests.
The President also said he would highlight the Philippine experience in promoting clean energy projects such as the first wind farms in Southeast Asia in 2003 during his term as governor of Ilocos Norte.
