Completion date for Bucana Bridge set November 2025

The Bucana Bridge, which will complete the segment B from Matina Aplaya in Times Beach to Roxas Avenue, of the ongoing coastal road project in Davao City is expected to be completed by November 2025, according to an official.

Department of Public Works and Highways Unified Project Management Office (DPWH UPMO) Bridge Management Cluster Project director Rodrigo I. Delos Reyes confirmed to Edge Davao that the mobilization for the Bucana Bridge began in December 2023 following the issuance of the Notice to Proceed (NTP) on November 29, 2023.

“The contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), already mobilized on-site. The Bucana Bridge is expected to be completed in November 2025,” Delos Reyes said in an interview thru email.

According to DPWH, as published on its page in November last year, DPWH entered a contract agreement with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for the construction of the Davao River Bridge also known as Bucana Bridge in Davao City.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan has officially approved the P3.126 billion civil works contract signed by DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain and CRBC general manager Ren Xiaopeng for the construction of a four-lane bridge and approaches with a total length of 1,340-lineal meter funded under China-Aid Grant.

It also stated that over the next 24 months or until November 2025, DPWH UPMO- Bridges Management Cluster (UPMO-BMC), and CRBC will work for the quality completion of the China-Aid Localized Project for Davao River Bridge located in the estuary of Davao River.

Bucana Bridge is considered a critical component that will complement to Davao City Coastal Road presently serving as an alternate route to the existing urban road network of Davao City.

The project also involves the construction of a 4-lane 6-span extradosed bridge, connection road, traffic engineering, lighting, and other ancillary facilities.

It also mentioned that the Detailed Engineering Design (DED) plans are already approved by the DPWH Central Office.
