Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte joined the advance Chinese New Year celebration of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao on Saturday at the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao.

The celebration was spearheaded by Chinese Consul General Zhao Xiuzhen, together with the Davao-Fil-Chinese Multisectoral Association (DFCMA).

Rigo, who was representing his father, Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, was among the special guests along with the officials of the city government of Davao and some of the foreign envoys and business leaders in Mindanao.

“The dragon is a representation of strength, wisdom, and luck that we need in facing the challenges this year,” Rigo said.

“On behalf of Rep. Pulong, thank you to the Chinese Consulate and ConGen Xiuzhen for their unwavering support to the city of Davao,” he added.

“I am very happy to join you all to celebrate this important festival, the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon. In a few days, we will usher in the Year of the Dragon. On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Davao, I would like to send an advance New Year’s greetings to all including our Filipino friends, overseas Chinese, representatives of Chinese companies and institutions, and overseas students in Mindanao,” Consul General Xiuzhen said in her message.

Xiuzhen said the Chinese Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao will actively implement the principle of “diplomacy for the people,” and continuously improve the consular protection and services.

“Safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and enterprises, and create a better environment for compatriots to work, live, and study in Mindanao. The Consulate General strives for the best in this regard,” she said.

During the activity, Xiuzhen also announced the P5 million donation of the Chinese community to the flood-hit areas in the Davao Region.
