Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Sunday bared that there’s an ongoing discussion between Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) in preparation for the 2025 elections.

Commonly referred to as “Hugpong,” Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod is a local Davao City-based political organization, founded by former mayor Rodrigo Duterte, while Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) is a regional political party formed in 2018 by the vice president, in support of the Duterte administration.

“Dunay pagsabot-sabot nga gibuhat karon, dunay miting with Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod ug Hugpong ng Pagbabago. Ang pagkasabot nako ang PDP-Laban dinhi sa Davao Region muapil sa discussion,” the vice president told media.

In the 2022 presidential election, HNP supported the candidacies of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte for the presidency and vice presidency, respectively, under the UniTeam Alliance.

The HNP also endorsed 15 senatorial candidates for the 2019 mid-term elections namely Senators Cynthia Villar, Imee Marcos, Pia Cayetano, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Ronald dela Rosa, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Jinggoy Estrada, and Sonny Angara.

The party also endorsed Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, Maguindanao 2nd District Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu, journalist Jiggy Manicad, former senator Ramon Revilla Jr., former Palace spokesman Harry Roque, Dr. Willie Ong, and Francis Tolentino.

When asked if she has a national political party right now, the vice president revealed that there is none.

“Sa pagkakaron wala koy national political party. I’m single and ready to mingle,” she said in jest.
