Cebu-based water provider Helpmate, Inc. is planning to expand services in other districts of Davao City, according to an official.
Councilor Louie John Bonguyan, chair of the Committee on Water and Energy as well as Committee on Housing of the City Council, on Tuesday bared that the proposal of Helpmate to expand their services is currently pending in his committee.
Majority Davao City’s water is being supplied by the Davao City Water District (DCWD) and Helpmate is currently supplying water only in Buhangin District with its filtration system located in Tigatto.
“In 2016, gi-allow ang Helpmate to supply water in Buhangin District. In fact, pending sila sa akong committee ang Helpmate Incorporated that they are expanding their services to other districts in Davao City. Naa pa karon sa akong commitee kay mananghid pa sila sa other local government agencies. As of now Buhangin lang sa ang ilahang suplayan kay ang ordinansa nga among nahatag sa ilaha kay only Buhangin District,” Bonguyan said during the Aprubado sa Konseho media briefing.
In 2016, the City Council passed a legislative measure allowing Helpmate Inc., a water utility from Cebu, to operate and provide water in the 2nd District of Davao City.
Helpmate is using the Davao River as its source.
Bonguyan said with Helpmate’s plan to expand he will make sure that the company will be supplying 24/7 potable water to their clients before the council will allow them to go to another barangays.
“That is why karon sa plano nila nga mag expand I’ll make sure that they will be supplying 24/7 potable water sa ilahang mga clients before nato tugutan na muadto sa laing barangay. Actually I require them of a barangay certification kung okay ba ang tubig na ilang gina-supply didto sa existing barangays na ilang gina-serve,” he said.
Thus far, according to Bonguyan, no other investors have applied to supply water in Davao City.
“Currently, it’s DCWD and Helpmate,” he said.
He also said that the city is open to other investors who want to supply water to the city.
