Dad says plantilla workers needed at Davao City’s home for the aged

An ordinance operationalizing COSUGIAN Home for the Aged in Davao City is up for second reading in the City Council.

Councilor Wilberto Al-ag, chair of the Committee on Social Services of the City Council, said on Tuesday that among the objectives of the ordinance is to put plantilla positions to manage the facility including the budget for the staff so that there is security of tenure.

Al-ag said currently job orders have been assigned to the facility.

“Nahuman na mi ug first reading ana, mag second reading nata, i-presenta na para makabutang nata ug plantilla,” Al-ag said during the Aprubado sa Konseho media forum.

He also said that the city government of Davao is not even allowed to receive loans from private organizations as the facility is not yet owned by the city government of Davao.

“Gipa-manage na sa city government of Davao. Karon gi-donate. Dili ta makabutang ug eksakto nga budget for the home for the aged tungod kay dili man atoa ang property, ang nag manage lang ang City Social Welfare and Development Office,” he said.

Al-ag said, however, the facility is now donated to the city.

“Karon atoa naman ang property, ang buhaton nato, ang mga tao didto kay puro man job orders, kinahanglan ug plantilla didto na maoy mu-manage para anang trabahua under sa city government of Davao. Kung tan-awon nimo ang lugar, dako ang pasilidad nila, ang pagpakaon nila ang city tanan. Wala nay buhaton lain, butangan lang nato ug plantilla para mu-manage didto,” Al-ag said.

COSUGIAN Home for the Aged is the only local government Residential Care facility (RCF) that caters the abandoned, neglected, unattached, and homeless elderly persons in Davao City.

It is a residential care facility located in Lower Cabantian, Buhangin that provides shelter and protective custody with recreational, education, health, and social programs designed for the full enjoyment and benefit of the abandoned and neglected senior citizens of the city.

The RCF provides 24-hour residential care service as an alternative form of family care. It provides a nurturing and supportive environment where older persons receive medical and rehabilitative services, spiritual support, and companionship they desire from carers in the twilight years when their own immediate families cannot do so.
