Damosa Land, Inc. (DLI) President Ricardo “Cary” Lagdameo disclosed on Friday that they will feature urban gardening and community farm in its subdivision project, the Kahi Estates, on Libby Road in Puan, Davao City, which is being eyed to be launched in September this year.

Kahi Estates is set to be built on a five-hectare (ha) property and will be an open-lot subdivision with only 62 lots available for sale. The lot area will range from 500 to 600 square meters.

“It’s only about five hectares for now but we have adjacent properties very close to it and hopefully, we will be able to connect all of them,” Lagdameo said during the Business Forum @ Hukad at Ayala Malls Abreeza.

The project combines green and sustainable technologies with creative ideas that bring together living and farming.

Lagdameo said even if the project is small in size, the company wants to make it a model for all of their sustainability efforts.

He said even the shape of the structures from the guard house to the clubhouse even the model house will be built in such a way that it will have rainwater catchment.

He said they will also put solar panels on the different structures and promote urban home gardening.

“There are certain areas within the project wherein there will be a community farm. It’s something that we are doing in Agriya in Panabo City,” he said.

Lagdameo is referring to the 88-hectare agritourism development located in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, wherein Agriya helps enhance the quality of life of the community with its innovative amenities.

Lagdameo also said that they are making sure that they will not be importing and exporting materials for the project.

“Meaning to say we are trying to minimize having to bring in earthfill materials from very far away,” he said.

He also said that they are saving a lot of trees that are already existing in the area.

Lagdameo added that they will also put up a water detention facility to mitigate flooding.

“It would also serve as a water feature in the property but what it does is it reduces the propensity of flooding in the property,” he said.

According to him, they are trying to make Kahi Estates a model of sustainability and something that can be replicated and all of their other projects.

“For us, that’s what really got us excited it would be as green as we can,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lagdameo said currently they are going through the permitting process for Kahi Estates.

“We are hoping to launch Kahi Estates soon. We are going through the permitting process. But we made progress and our estimate is that we will officially launch it probably by, maybe September this year,” he said.

Lagdameo said “Kahi” is a stylized word short for “kahilum”, which means silence, tranquility, and peace, which are the kind of feelings that they want homeowners to feel when they’re there on the property.
