Davao transport, traffic master plan to be completed by January 2025

An official of a consultancy firm revealed to Edge Davao that the Davao City Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Master Plan is expected to be completed in January 2025.

George D. Esguerra, chief operating officer of the Urban Transport and Infrastructure Systems Consultant, said they will submit it to the city government of Davao through the team of Assistant City Administrator lawyer Dwight Domingo.

“It now depends on whether they go straight to the Sanggunian to adopt the masterplan or meron pang further consultation by barangay. The approach of Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte is to approach each barangay. After the presentation, there will be critiquing and adjustments to be done,” he said.

On June 27, 2024, the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP) and Esguerra’s team conducted a Transport Strategy Workshop for Stakeholders at Rogen Inn in Davao City as part of the formulation of the master plan.

The Strategy Workshop, which is a follow-through of the recently conducted Visioning Workshop, aims to inform of the adopted Davao City Transport Vision 2050; confirm the identified Transport Master Plan objectives; and formulate specific transport strategies to achieve the plan objectives.

Esguerra said after the Strategy Workshop, they will still conduct the Prioritization of Projects Workshop and then the consulting team will consolidate and come up with a report.

“Ang next task namin is to come up with data collection. We will do surveys this coming August,” he said.

Esguerra said their approach is to consult the stakeholders, summarize, and then look back at the inputs, and reveal.

The city government of Davao is embarking on a process of developing a transport roadmap for the city.

The city aspires to an efficient travel time, a safer thoroughfare, and a healthier environment for the Dabawenyos.
