Rigo underscores youth’s crucial role in nation-building

Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, son of Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte and grandson of former president Rodrigo Duterte, underscored the youth’s crucial role in nation-building during the Hugpong Youth Convention at the Recreational Center in Davao City on June 26, 2024.

Representing his father, Rigo delivered the message before the youth participants and key officials that include Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, Councilor Kristine Abdul-Mercado, SK Federation President; and Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod Party president Jun Evasco.

“The future belongs to the youth of this nation. We will be relying on them to shape our future. It is important that they understand how important their role is going to be and so we need to mold them this early so that they are ready to take on their respective roles,” Rigo told Edge Davao.

Organized by Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, the event marked a significant milestone in recognizing the leadership potential of the youth in shaping the future of their communities and the nation.

The activity focused on empowering the youth and enhancing their leadership skills, the convention brought together young individuals from various political districts.

Mercado emphasized the importance of youth uniting for a common goal while Evasco, who presented the history of Hugpong, challenged the SKs to excel beyond their peers nationwide, highlighting the significance of youth leadership in shaping the nation’s future.

Meanwhile, Mayor Duterte led the pledge of loyalty to the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod Party.

In his message, he highlighted the existence of bad practices in the nation that should not be adopted by the SKs, expressing his trust in the SKs to do better as they are the country’s future leaders.

The mayor also emphasized the importance of instilling responsibility and nationalism among the youth.

The convention culminated with raffle draws and a concert featuring a lineup of talented performers.
