City in Japan to forge sisterhood agreement with Davao City

The Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC) announced that the City of Davao will be signing a Sisterhood Agreement through an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the City of Hamamatsu, Japan on October 29 at the Matina Enclaves in Davao City.

Both cities will forge cooperation in the areas of education, academia, industry, investments, and manufacturing that is expected to usher shared prosperity and better understanding.

Once the MoU is formally signed, Hamamatsu City will become the third city in Japan to have a sisterhood agreement with Davao City.

On February 15 this year, officials from Sennan City, Kitakyushu City, and Hamamatsu City, accompanied by Consul-General Ishikawa Yoshihisa of the Consulate-General of Japan in Davao office, paid a courtesy call to Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte.

Sennan City is the second Japanese sister city of Davao City and since last year has been very active in people-to-people exchanges including online cultural interaction between students and promoting economic relations.

Since the sister city agreement in 2017, Kitakyushu City, on the other hand, has worked together with Davao City especially in the field of environment after introducing to the country the first waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in Davao City.

In January this year, Davao City officials visited Kitakyushu City, under the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s technical cooperation for the grassroots project and improvement of the Municipal Solid Waste Management System.
